I got a new book for Christmas this year and even though I just started reading it, I've already lost my page several times. I decided that what I really need is a bookmark, so I put together a pretty little bookmark today using Midnight Kiss that I will print out on cardstock to use with my new book. For today's blog post, I put together a Holly Jolly Christmas card for you. I deviated a bit from my usual 4x6 folding card and did a 4x8 postcard this time. That's a pretty popular size for Christmas cards (plus I have a lot of 4x8 envelopes from 'Save the Dates' I never got around to sending out - lol). Anyway, I chose to go with the yellow/blue hues of the kit, but there are also reds and greens and golds too! You'll find unique color combinations with a lot of sparkle in this kit. Tip of the Week - iPhoneography

It's Jen and I have to admit it... I have joined the iPhone revolution. Actually, in my home, we have been all Apple for several years (but not the snobby kind of "all apple" folks, LOL). With the notable exception of our phones, primarily due to the sorry coverage AT&T has in our area. Since that is no longer an obstacle, I moved effortlessly from Droid to iPhone this fall.

This has now prompted a serious interest in what is called iPhoneography! Yep, I can be creative photographically without my dslr *blasphamy*, hehe.

And of course, I will transfer these images into works of Scrap! What else would I do with them?

All this is to say that I ran across several web stories, blogs, tutorials on this topic and want to share one article with you from Mashable.com. It actually outlines 10 websites that are inspiring for mobile phone photography (not just the iPhone).

Hi Dani fans. I'm going to forgo my usual Saturdays with Jen 1+1=3 today because I made a little recipe card this week that I'd like to share with you instead. I used Dani's kit Cook With Me, a cute little kit perfect for recipe cards and layouts alike. I had a template from CM, and needed to throw together a recipe card for a secret santa gift exchange at work. I made it real quick and it turned out pretty cute I think. Hey there Dani fans! Hope you are enjoying Digital Scrapbooking Day (err, weekend)! I sure have been. While today (I mean yesterday, eh em) is Digicard day, I decided to share with you quick my new siggy instead. I used Dani's kit Harvest Delight to make the majority of it (2 elements from theStudio Give Thanks collab) and I love the way it turned out. My old siggy was halloween style, and apparently too big for some sites taste (lol - I thought it was perfectly reasonable). Tip of the Week... DSD Tip!

It's almost time for Digital Scrapbooking Day! WOOT! It's an exciting time around digi-land and you will want to be ready for it. My Tip for this week is to look carefully and really evaluate the product you "can't live without" before you buy or download it. We can all be swept away in the sea of freebies and sales. Some of that is really, really good and fun, but some will just leave you with buyer's remorse or a full hard drive, LOL.

So... take some time a few days before the big weekend (like now) and visit the stores you love the most. Fill you wish lists, then try to stay true to that this weekend. Also, follow along with all of the fun Blog Trains you will see, but don't download every single piece if you know you will never use it! And the stuff you do download, get it all organized into folders and "put away" as you go if possible. If you find the downloading process really slow, consider downloading your items after Sunday when the servers are less busy. Don't forget them, though, as most stores only give you a few days to download your goodies!

As far as Danimoy Designs goes, you know you will want to visit her stores, right? Well, head over there now, browse through all of her great products and put your faves in your wish lists. Then on DSD Weekend, you will be ready to shop... stress free!

Tip of the Week - Do You Shift?

Do you know that magical things that your SHIFT key can do for your scrapbook pages? It's a super easy tip, but one I didn't know when I was starting out in this awesome hobby.

Hold down the SHIFT when you are resizing your stuff and they will keep their proportions.

When using your Line Tool, use the SHIFT to get a perfectly straight line every time.

When rotating your paper, text or elements, hold the SHIFT key to "pop" them into place beautifully.

I *heart* my SHIFT key :).

And don't forget that Dani's entire store is 40% off until October 31st in Celebration of Halloween!

Now that is a Tip you cannot live without!

Saturdays (err...Sundays) with Jen: Pretty Monster

Hi there! Yesterday was a busy busy day so I'm making this week Sundays with Jen! I've got another edition of 1+1=3. I wanted to do something a little spooky halloween-ish today, but I wanted it to be funky and unique too. I think I accomplished that, lol. It's a little, uh....different. But, I hope you'll like it.

Today I took Dani's kits Sweet Little Monster and Cuppycake, mashed them together and came up with Pretty Little Monster (that's what I'm calling it anyway). As always, you can find both kits in Dani's store at SBB. Here is the first kit, Sweet Little Monster.

And the second kit, Cuppycake.

We take 1+1 and voila! We get 3 kits to work with!

Funky, right? And here's a layout I did with this one - no pictures because I didn't really have any. But, imagine it kind of like a QP and you get the idea! Note that I recolored some of the tree leaves to fit the color scheme. Easy to do :) I also used a template from Decorative Click and Fill by CM.

Digicards with Jen: They say it's your birthday

It's time for another digicard! And I think this one is super fun! Last week, we celebrated my dog Sophie's first birthday (yup, I said my dog). My dear sweet fiance made her a cake fit for a queen (doggie queen that is). He layered a turkey patty on top of a beef patty, with peanut butter and bacon in between, and frosted the whole thing with a peanut butter-bacon mix. He even wrote Happy Birthday Sophie on top with bacon flavored doggie cheez whiz (yes, that's a real thing). It was adorable! Sophie thought it was pretty awesome too. She gobbled it right up. In celebration of Sophie's birthday, I decided to make a birthday digicard this week. I used Dani's kit Cuppycake, which you can find in her store at SBB. Hope you like it!

Hybrid Friday: Halloween Milk Carton Treat Box

Hello there! This week, my hybrid creation was inspired by this post on the hybrid chic. I created my own milk carton box using danimoy designs's Spooktacular kit. I am going to use it for our annual Halloween party :)

First, I used the milk carton template in PSE9, and created a halloween house scene. I started with an orange background paper that mimicked a siding and roofing. I used purple ribbon to make a fence, added a window with ribbon curtains inside, trees and two pumpkins, two trick or treaters and a Happy Halloween sign. Then, I printed it out on white cardstock and cut it out. I also used my paper cutter to score the folding lines for a cleaner look.

I glued the side strip down and it created the rectangular piece of the box.

Then I simply folded the bottom pieces together to make the bottom of the box. I decided not to glue these down and leave it open, so I could later place some candies inside!

I folded and glued the top part together and ended up with this!!

It was such a fun and easy hybrid project and it will make such a great treat box for our Halloween party too!! Thanks for looking and see you next week!

Got an early start to my day today, phew! Heading outta town for a couple of nights and I gotta get a packin' (yeah, I always wait until the last minute, bad habit). Before I leave though, I've got another digicard to share with you. This round, I used Dani's kit Read all about it, which you can of course find in Dani's boutique at Scrapbook Bytes. I intentionally left it blank, because well, sometimes you just want a card that you can make all your own (though I think you'll agree that the alpha included in the kit would be a perfect addition to this card!!). Hope you like it!

Hybrid Friday and a Freebie :)

It's almost that time again...Halloween! Our family throws an annual Halloween Party and today I decided to make an hybrid invitation using Spooktacular. I love this kit because it is the perfect mix of spooky and cute, with its elaborate papers and cute drawn elements. You can find the link for it below.

Now, onto the project :) First and foremost I designed the card in PSE and then printed out each layer separately. This will give the card more dimension. Here's what my printout looked like:

Using my trusty scissors, I cut each piece carefully. Then, I used glue dots to attach each layer to the card.

After adding each piece, I finally added a bit more dimension a finishing touch, I glued down 5 white buttons.
It's as simple as that! If you were following along, you'll now have a cute card or invitation.

I'm actually somewhat of a font hoarder and I can spend more time than I care to admit searching through my collection to grab the perfect choice for my journaling or title. Uh oh, am I a day late again?! I know, I know. Apologies. There are a few scrapbooking contests going on out there in digiland that have kept me a bit busy. But, I think you'll be impressed with the 1+1=3 I've come up with today. Lately I've really been into heritage layouts. I got some new-old photos from my mom and I've just loved going through them and putting them into layouts. Something about those B&W/sepia photos that just looks so lovely on a page! So today I put together two kits that make one stunning heritage kit. I hope you'll agree! Plus, I did a layout with the "new" kit to share with you.

The first kit I used for my 1+1=3 was Danimoy's Crush. I've used this one before and it was worth using again. It is so lovely! Here is Crush, which you can find in Dani's shop at Scrapbook Bytes.

Next up, a kit I just acquired and LOVE, read all about it. Is this kit not perfect for heritage layouts? Read all about it can also be found in Dani's shop at SBB.

Flashback Friday!

I don't know about you but September reminds me of apples. It brings back memories of going back to school and we also, as a family often go to our local orchards to their annual apple festival. What makes you think of apples in September?

Justify Text

OK, so this is such a simple tip, yet something I didn't know for a couple of years of scrapping in PSE. And sometimes, it makes all the difference in the world! How to justify your text. You know, make it look like a cool square or rectangle in your text box. It's a really neat trick.

PSE:
Basically, you type in your text box, then highlight your text and click CMD+Shift+J (Mac) or Control+Shift+J (PC)... it is MAGIC! hehe

In Photoshop:
Once you highlight your text in the text box, you click on the "Toggle the Character and Paragraphs Palattes Icon" in the Options Bar. Select the Paragraph tab and the last 4 options can Justify the text.

I don't have any fancy screenshots for this today, but trust me when I say it works great and you will love the outcome. I'll be back next week for a more visually stimulating Tip!

Are you ready for another digicard? I had fun making this one. I suspect it has something to do with the awesome kit I got to use! Dani's Crush - have you seen it? Oh, it's so lovely. Probably one of my favorite kits. You can find it at Scrapbook Bytes. Would you like to see what I made with it? Ok, you twisted my arm, here ya go (smile). Hope you like it!

I've decided that I prefer the half page fold, instead of the 4-fold, so I'm sticking with that for a while. So I'll show you first page 1 and 4, then page 2-3. Eeeek, I'm late! Does it still count as Saturday if it's 3:40am? (seriously, it is). Time got away from me this time and so Saturday with Jen has become late night with Jen, for today anyway. As a result, while I do have a 1+1=3 for you, I've not been able to scrap a page with it just yet. But, it's a lovely combo and I just know I will use it at some point, and I hope you will too!

This week I combined two Dani kits to get a Labor Day kit of red, white, and blue. The first kit I used is Cook With Me. This is a super fun kit, especially if you are working on a digiscrap cookbook. I'm trying to get one done before the holidays, so far some progress, could use a little more and this kit is sure to help! Here's Cook With Me. Find it at SBB.

For the second kit, I used the lovely Crush, also available at SBB.

As always, we take 1 kit + 1 kit and like magic, we have 3 kits to play with! Here's my "new" kit, Labor Day.

Back To School Hybrid Printable - Check, Check, Done! Place mat

Hi danimoy fans! I have a freebie for you today :) I don't know about you but I am bittersweet about the summer being over. But, my youngest sister is entering kindergarten this year and I decided to make her a checklist placement to help her adjust and remember to pack everything she needs.

I used danimoy's Study Buddy and Another Moment kits to create this unique organizational placement.

So for today's project, I simply started with a 8.5 x 11 inch document in PSE and created the background to have 3 parts, with the left side for "Do at Home" and the right side for "Bring to School" checklists. I did it this way because it's organized and it can be better read while a bowl or plate is sitting in the middle. Then I created the lists on each side to have the major to-dos like get dressed, make the bed, brush teeth, etc. and I even left some space to write in those particular day reminders. Finally, I added some cool elements and the placement was complete :)

I printed it out on white card stock and laminated it. Now, my sister Carina can cross off or place a check mark next to the things she has accomplished in the morning with a dry-erase marker! Easy right?

Jen here with another Digicard Saturday for you. I've decided to try another half-fold this week. Last week in my 1+1=3, I showed you how you can combine For Whimsy Sake with another Dani favorite, Denim Blues. There's something about dark blues that I really like lately, so I made my card this week using Denim Blues. This kit is a collab between Dani and A+ Designs (team = duolicious) and you can find it at Scrabbook Bytes.

Tip of the Week: Levels

So, what's up with levels? Even if you are a novice to editing photos, you have probably heard of this. But do you actually fiddle with the "levels" on most of your photos? Probably not. But if you did, you'd be very pleased with the results. It doesn't require any fancy actions (although those are super cool and I'll try to hit on those sometime in the future) and it is simple enough for anyone who understands layers in PSE or Photoshop to use, and use regularly.

So, here is my photo. No comments on the composition or subject. I had just planted this on my deck and was mighty proud :). P.S. it is still alive and thriving. Yay, me!

To adjust the levels you can use a new adjustment layer (the little circle next to the "Create New Layer" square in PSE) and choose Levels from the pop up choices. OR more simply you can click on Enhance -> Adjust Lighting -> Levels. Again, this is in PSE 9 on a Mac but I'm sure it is similar in other versions of PSE.

In Photoshop, I believe it is Images -> Adjustments -> Levels. Unfortunately, this is from internet research and not experience *insert whimper here*.

Regardless of how you get there, here's the screen you will see..

You will want to adjust the little triangle and watch the magic happen. In general, you will pull the slider in the direction needed to get rid of the flat line. In my case above, I pulled the right slider towards the left and ended up with this...

And Voila... my image looks better.

Try it sometime! You will be happier with your scrapbook pages if you are happy with your photos.

Hi there. Have you had a great week? Hope so! My fiance is out of town so I've had some serious scrap time (replacing, of course, serious cleaning time - who wants to do that, right?!). Today I've got a really fun 1+1=3 for you. It's one of my favorites yet. If you aren't familiar with how this works, I take one kit plus one kit, mix them up to create a new, different kit, and voila - 3 kits to work with! This week I've chosen two collabs from Dani and collab partner A+Designs (collab = Duolicious). You can find each kit at Scrabookbytes and Gotta Pixel by clicking on the image.

For the first kit, I chose the beautiful For Whimsy's Sake. I'm not sure I'd actually seen this one before, and immediately loved it. It is so pretty!

While Whimsy is a lovely girly kit, the second kit I chose is all boy! This one is Denim Blues.

Alright, are you ready to see what I came up with? I'm pretty happy with this one (patting self on back - ok, ok, patting Dani on back - she's the one who designed these beauties after all)!

Hybrid Friday: Personalized Wipes Container

Hi everyone!! It's that time of week again :) I am too excited about today's post! As a mom of a toddler, I have tons of empty baby wipes containers around. I will not throw them out because I knew I'd find somewhat to reuse them. So here's the before and after:

A close friend is having a baby shower in a few weeks and I got on the ball to make her a personalized wipes container for her little one on the way. I used Fresh Start Papers and Element Packs to create this beauty :)

Here's what you'll need to follow along:

an empty baby wipes container

printer

color ink

a digi kit, like danimoy's Fresh Start

ribbon to match

scissors

glue

optional: scoring tool, paper cutter

First, I measured the wipes container and created a shape in PSE to match the measurements. I clipped a green paper to the shape and printed out two, one for each side. Then I pinched where I needed to score or fold.

I used the scoring blade that my paper cutter came with. If you have one, you know how handy they are! You can also use a bone folder if you have one for this step.

I applied the papers to each side with glue.

Then, I decided to cover up the huggies logo to add a more personalized touch! I roughly traced the circular shape and trimmed it up carefully with my scrapping scissors. After applying glue and placing the paper the base was made. To complete the top, I added a name tag.

Finally, to add some embellishments! I added ribbon I found for .59 cents at Micheal's :) I also decided to print out some flowers from Fresh Start. I decided to print two of the silver and black flower. I did this so I could layer them and remove some petals from the top flower to add some more dimension. I added the smaller black flower on top. It is also important to make sure you glue only the center of each flower so the edges can add additional dimension.

Tip of the Week: Recipe Fun

So, how many of us have a "Recipe" Bookmark on our computer with tons of awesome recipes we either want to try or have found to be a hit with our families? *raising my hand* And how many of us have scribbled recipe cards where the ink is fading and it's getting difficult to distinguish between the Tsp and the Tbsp? (big difference, by the way) *raising my hand* Well, the tip today is to do something about it!

Use your copy and paste miracle or bite the bullet and type the thing out... but get those family and new recipes onto your hard drive and spitting out of your printer! And if you really want to be impressive, grab your camera after you create your culinary masterpiece (ie... mac 'n cheese) and snap a picture of it for the recipe card. Because as scrapper, none of us will be satisfied with a simple word document.

Oh no! It must be pretty :)... and I have a great tool to get you started. DaniMoy has these great Recipe Templates for sale. They are perfect to start the ball rolling. Or create your own templates. But having a few simple templates to work from will help you when you are ready to sit down and document the recipe.

Then find a great Cooking Kit (or two) to use so the card, or page will be pretty. Dani has one of those, too, called Cook With Me. How convenient, hehe...

Hi everyone, it's me Jen again. Did you have a good week? I hope so. Things were pretty hectic here. I had company over last weekened, and my folks are in town for the next week, so I've been busy. But, of course, never too busy to get a little digiscrapping in, hee hee. I've got another edition of 1+1=3 for you. I hope you enjoyed the last one and got your thinking caps going a little. This time I've put together two separately amazing kits, to give me one semi-tropical coastal I-really-like-it kind of kit. I hope you'll like it too!

For my first kit, I chose Bahama Mama. Dani just released this one a couple of weeks ago, and I've seen some lovely LOs popping up everywhere. In case you missed it though, here is Bahama Mama, which you can find in Dani's store at Gotta Pixel (40% off no less!).

For the next kit, I decided to go with an oldie - Sweet Little Monster. I did a LO with this one recently and just fell in love with it. You can get the whole bundle at Gotta Pixel, which includes a template pack (a must have in my opinion!). And hey, whatdya know? It's 40% off too!

Hybrid Friday: Cupcakes Anyone?

Hi everyone, Laina here!

Now, on to this week's hybrid post! Cupcakes :) I decided to make cupcake wrappers and toppers using Bahama Mama

First, here's what you'll need:

Cupcakes (homemade or store bought)

Color Printer (with color ink)

Kit: Bahama Mama Collab by danimoy designs and A+ designs

Toothpicks

Tape

Glue (optional)

I designed the toppers as follows: I first created a 2 inch circle and created a slightly smaller inner circle. I then placed the circle frame around the inner circle and finally placed an element in the middle. You can see I alternated the elements in the center to create 3 distinct toppers. I added shadows and here's what I came up with:

I changed the element in the center to create 2 alternate cupcake toppers. I then placed 12 cupcake toppers on a 8.5x11 sized document and printed them out. You can see the document below:

I used a template to make the wrappers. I clipped the orange and pink papers to each wrapper. Then, with both cupcake wrappers placed on a 8.5x11 sized document I simply printed and cut them out.

Finally, I assembled the toppers and wrappers. I taped 1 toothpick on the back of each topper and glued the edges of the wrappers together. Here's the final decorated cupcakes!

Hi again, Jen here. Made it to another Saturday, one of my favorite days of the week! Did you see all of the awesome stuff flying around here this week? There were coupons and crafts, tips and layouts galore. It's been a pretty fun week at Danimoy Designs if I do say so myself. I've really enjoyed visiting the blog each day to see what the blog girls have up. Did you try out that gift card hybrid tag from Laina? Cute, right? Anyhow, today is the second in my blog series, digicards. For this (every 2nd and 4th Saturday), I'll use one of Dani's kits to make a card digitally. Typically, I'll make a card and then print it out to give, but I'm working on a tutorial for how to send a card that will open digitally. I haven't quite gotten there yet, but when I do, I'll let you know. Now, on to my first card.

Today I'm going back in time a bit, using a really unique kit of Dani's called Don't String Me Along. Have you seen this one?

How cute, am I right?

First things first, you need to choose a template. There are a number of ways to do this, but for today, we'll go with a very simple 4-fold. Start by creating an 8.5x11 canvas and place your squares as follows (I like to add squares of different colors so that I can see where my boundaries are. You can skip this if you prefer to just use the ruler to judge). Note that the top two panels need to be upside down in order to print properly.

Once you've got it setup, design away. Using Don't String Me Along, here is what I came up with. I'll show you page by page.

TIP of the Week: Rounding Corners

Have you ever wanted to add a little something, something to your page. How about rounding off some corners? You can do this with photos, papers, clipping masks, elements... the list goes on. There are several ways to do this, but here's one way that's pretty simple. I used PSE for Mac if you don't recognize the screen shots.

The first step is the choose the item that you want to have rounded edges. Stunning start to this tutorial, right? hehe (I've chosen this adorable photo of my daughter in her multiple hair bow phase as the example, just because it's cute) Then use the marquee tool to select a square or rectangle around your picture or paper.

Then in the drop down menu, choose Select - > Modify - > Smooth.

You will get a pop-up then. Not a bad one, I promise... You will need to choose a number of pixels. You can start with 50, although in my example I used 75.

The next part is the fun part. In your drop down menu choose Select - > Inverse then click your Delete button. Fun, huh?

Now, go to the menu and choose Select - > Deselect and you are done!

Happy weekend everyone. It's a sun-shiney day here in Oregon, and I hope it is for you too, wherever that might be. This is Jen here with my first blog post for Danimoy Designs. I'll be with you each Saturday and I hope you'll join me here too! I titled my blog post sessions 'Saturdays with Jen' (creative, right, lol). Each Saturday I'll have something new to share with you - twice a month I'll have a digicard made using one of Dani's awesome kits, and twice a month (starting today) I'll mix things up a little with something I call 1+1=3. Don't worry, I can do math. This is one of those special situations, though, where it actually does add up. For each 1+1=3 session, I'll show you two of Dani's kits. I'll then take a little of this and a little of that, mix it up, and voila, a new kit will emerge. Hence, one kit plus one kit equals three kits for you to work with. I hope that makes sense, but if not, don't worry, I'll show you what I mean.

The first step is to choose two kits that you would like to work with. These could be some of your favorite all time kits, or perhaps some that you just haven't used in a while. The best part is, they don't even have to be remotely similar for this to work. For my first session, I chose Dani's Owl Always Love You and Time of Your Life (which you can find in Dani's shop at Scrapbook Bytes here).

Aren't these the cutest?! Ok, so now I've got my 1+1, I need to mix it up and get my 3. Begin by choosing a color pallete. I LOVE the blue and white clouds in Owl Always Love You, and the blue and pink papers in Time of Your Life really jumped out at me. So, my color pallete is blue, white, and pink. Now it's time to mix it up. Go through each kit and separate out the papers and elements that match your new color scheme. Here's what I came up with for mine:

Isn't that awesome?! I was really pleased with the result. Now it's time to have a little fun. Scrap to your hearts content! I made a layout using my "new" kit and one of my absolute favorite photos. I was too young to remember this photo, and frankly most of the people in it. But it really means a lot to me to have this "memory" and I really felt that "Dare to Dream" was the perfect kit for it. Hope you think so too!

Hybrid Friday: Butterfly Gift Tag

Hi danimoy fans! Laina here, I am excited to bring you our blog's first Hybrid Post. In weeks to come, I will post hybrid posts twice a month on Fridays!!

Today we are going to make a buttefly tag, perfect for gifts, made with danimoy's Flutter found here at Gotta Pixel or Scrapbook Bytes.

To complete this project, you will need:
A scrapbooking kit of our choice
Template provided
A printer with color ink
White Cardstock
Ribbon (I will use a dark blue ribbon)
A hole puncher
Small scissors/Xacto Craft Knife
Pop-up glue dots

I have provided you with a template for the tag, which you can download by following this link: Download here

Once you have downloaded the template, you can open it up with Photoshop and begin adding your papers and elements.

I decided to leave out the top butterfly and the three smaller butterflies out of design for now. Instead of placing them digitally, I will print them out, cut and glue down with pop-up glue dots. I made the three smaller butterflies are about 1 sq. inch in size and the larger butterfly is about 1 1/2 sq. inch in size to print. In order to figure your sizes out, you can place them on the template to get an general idea of what size element you wish to have and then create a new document with them to print, separately like my below.

After printing on cardstock, let the tag and additional elements dry for at least 5 minutes. Now you are ready to start assembling the gift tag!

I cut out the butterflies, attached them with glue dots. I also decided last minute to add ribbon on top. Then I punched a hole at the top and threaded the ribbon through.

Here's my final butterfly gift tag!

Did you know that Dani is hosting a new challenge at Gotta Pixel this month? It's a super fun Progressive Challenge and there is still time for you to jump on the band wagon for July!

Finally, I just can't resist a page that tells a great story, which this one does. Fun memory. Super page. Great job on the challenge.
